New Adult Learn to Sail courses offered at Takapuna Boating Club
Takapuna Boating Club are thrilled to start offering Learn to Sail courses for Adults, with courses starting in March 2021.
This 5 or 6 week course will introduce participants to dinghy sailing, teaching the knowledge and skills to go dinghy sailing safely and enjoyably. Centred around having fun and developing a love for sailing as well as building water confidence, this course will get new sailors confidently sailing around our ocean backyard.
"We are excited to be able to start offering Learn to Sail courses at the club this summer" said Danika Mowlem, TBC Events Manager.
"This is a big step in our sailing strategy to help grow the sailing side of Takapuna Boating Club and will allow more people to safely discover and enjoy a fantastic sport and activity.
The Sailing Committee have done an awesome job over the past couple of months acquiring suitable boats and equipment for the club to get this sailing programme up and running. With enthusiasm about sailing at all time high due to the America's Cup, now is a perfect time to offer a service such as this."
The course will predominantly be done in RS Quests, but could also include Lasers or other sailing dinghies as suitable. All equipment and personal flotation devices (PFDs) are provided. The course will follow Yachting New Zealand's internationally accredited Introduction to Sailing Level 1 course, and upon completion participants will receive their Yachting New Zealand Level 1 certificate. Participants will also receive a short term membership to Takapuna Boating Club for the duration of the course.
The first course will start on Sunday 14th March, with many more courses to come in the future. It is suitable for anyone aged 15years and over.
